International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia
Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia!
It was on this day in 1990 that the World Health Organization made the decision to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder.
The day was highlighted to draw attention to the discrimination and violence experienced by people with diverse sexual and gender orientations. Though the world has made progress in recognizing LGBT individuals and providing equal opportunities, there is much more to be done when it comes to the safety and treatment of LGBT communities.
Over 130 countries around the world acknowledge the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. Countries that participate in IDAHOTB hold some sort of service that commemorates their respective LGBT communities.
