Thanks for reposting this. Thanks for reposting this. One correction: It is incorrect to say that the rules of the UMC bar Dyck and others from marrying gay couples. They prohibit such marriages, yes, but over 1,100 clergy nationally have pledged to marry ALL couples in defiance of the rules. Dyck’s “I can’t” marry people is really “I won’t.” We deeply appreciate her support, in the civil rights struggle and in the struggle to end UMC discrimination, but we urge her to join the marriage initiative and recognize that we can and should all stop discirminating now.
