Faith Leaders Launch Bilingual, LGBTQI-Affirming Trauma Support Network
Launching in response to the devastating killings in Orlando, the “Will Listen With Love” Project is a national support network comprised of pastors, therapists, spiritual directors and community support providers who have volunteered their time to offer safe and affirming space for grieving members of the LGBTQIA community and their allies to be heard.
Unlike formal therapy, these “listening sessions” are intended to support the LGBTQIA community as they process their sadness and anger over Sunday’s massacre in Orlando.
“While the violence in Orlando represents the largest mass killing by a single shooter in modern US history, it also represents a hate crime—a planned, premeditated attack on a vulnerable minority people group—making this all the more painful and heartbreaking,” says Rev. Cameron Trimble, CEO of the Center for Progressive Renewal.
“We need one another in these moments, and we are pleased to be partnering with such talented faith leaders to provide support and education to all of us longing for a more just and generous world.”
Those interested in speaking with a “Will Listen With Love” listener may make their request known on the group’s Facebook page.
Once a request is received, volunteers will connect interested parties with an appropriate “listener” who will reach out via contact information they provide. English and Spanish speaking volunteers are available. Referrals will be offered for those who seek formal mental health services.
If you wish to volunteer your time as a trained listener, as an outreach or awareness-building assistant, or would like to register as a supporting organization, please contact Teresa Pasqual e Mateus via email.
