Jesus isn’t queer, straight,
Jesus isn’t queer, straight, transgendered, or bi. He’s not to be labeled. When we label him we have captured him. Jesus simply is everyone and everything. I can live with a Jesus like that.

“The Bible describes a God
“The Bible describes a God who loves the entire world but does not tolerate sin. In fact, in the few instances when words that could be translated as tolerance or intolerance occur in the biblical text, they generally appear in contexts that condemn tolerance of wickedness and immorality in the midst of God’s people.”

“Love and reproof are not mutually exclusive concepts. If one fails to reprove another who is engaged in self-destructive or community-destructive behavior, or any conduct deemed unacceptable by God, one can hardly claim to have acted in love either to the perpetrator or to others affected by the perpetrator’s actions. Without a moral compass love is mere mush.”
-Prof. Robert Gagnon, The Bible and Homosexual Practice, p. 27 and 34.

How outraged would people be
How outraged would people be if we started referring to Christ as the Male Christ or the Jewish Christ or the Middle Eastern Christ or the Conservative Christ or the Liberal Christ or the Celibate Christ? Or if we chose any other attribute that we could conceivably (and tangentially) link to his character and made that the single defining characteristic with which we refer to him? Christ–who I don’t believe is queer, as queerness is a social signifier created by humans to describe their personal relationship to society–is so much bigger than “the Queer Christ.” To simplify him in order to make him relate to us is endlessly solipsistic, and to classify him as such simply to make his message more palatable to the queer community is a travesty.

People call Jesus all kinds
People call Jesus all kinds of things, because Christ reflects all people. When the image of Christ has been bled empty of anything other than being white and male, when he wasn’t even white – maybe it’s best to start adding some description back in so that we know that Jesus’ humanness is in connection with everyone.

Either way, it’s dumb to come to a marginalised group and start arguing that identifying Jesus with themselves when Jesus has been denied to them so long is selfish. No, it’s selfish denying Jesus to LGBTQ people. It’s called an “emphasis”, meant to heal the church, the same way talking about God’s femaleness is useful for women in a religion that has perpetuated violence against women and denied women the knowledge that they are in the image of God, too.

Be aware that often times
Be aware that often times what may appear as service can and does be come become an intoxicating drug when media attention, press and self validation supersede what was initially meant as helping the masses!

Outraged

It’s a shame when good
It’s a shame when good intentions become an act of attention seeking without concern of who may be harmed in the process.
