Meet the Bloggers

My name is Maria Medina, and I am 17 years old. I am a senior in high school. I was basically raised in the Presbyterian Church, and for the last 8 years I have been going to a Spanish speaking church in Brooklyn. I went to Triennium and came back inspired to make a change and share all the things I learned with people at my church.

I became the President of the Youth and decided that change was more than just the youth, so I decided the best way to do this was to create a sermon with the question of "Are we reflecting the love of God onto others?" As I began writing the sermon I began to realize it was more about what God wanted me to say and less of how people would think of me after. I knew God had a plan for me, and with the support of John Russell Stanger at Presbyterian Welcome, I was able to put all my ideas together and come up with a beautiful sermon that I hope touched the hearts of many.

Maria Medina is 17 years old, and she is a member of Presbyterian Welcome's youth group. She preached this sermon in both Spanish and English on August 25 at her church in Brooklyn, NY.

Sometimes when people go out of church they say, "Boy, I wish so and so had heard that message." I don’t want you to do that this morning. I want you to take it personally. Ask: "How does it apply to me?" instead of: "How does it apply to someone else?"
