Becky Garrison is the author of seven books including Roger Williams' Little Book of Virtues (forthcoming) and Red and Blue God, Black and Blue Church (Publishers Weekly starred review). She contributes to a range of outlets including The Washington Post's On Faith column, The Guardian's Belief section, Truth Wins Out, American Atheist, Free Inquiry, Killing the Buddha and The Revealer.  Her reporting on transgender issues was supported by a 2012 Knight Grant for Reporting on Religion and American Public Life. The Knight Grants are a program of the University of Southern California’s Knight Program in Media and Religion.

When I received a Facebook invite regarding Atheist Coming Out Week at Harvard University, I observed the similarities between this material and the LGBT pride pieces I get in my inbox. Both pro-LGBT gatherings and events like the "Why Atheism Matters" Panel celebrate and humanize populations often marginalized in the media.
